Can shoulder problems be solved?

The research tells us that physiotherapy is as effective at dealing with shoulder problems as surgery, even in situations where there is a tear, fracture, or dislocation. It is also sometimes the case that when you feel a pain in your shoulder that the source of that pain may be elsewhere, for example the neck. For this reason, a physiotherapy assessment will always be beneficial as a first step.

How we can help your shoulder pain?

A thorough assessment of your symptoms, your range of motion and the surrounding areas will enable us to create a specific treatment plan for you. Below is a summary of how we typically help people with shoulder problems.

Diagnosis

It is critical to understand the source of your symptoms and whether you have true shoulder pain or what we call referred pain. Shoulders are typically in one of two categories, stiff and weak. An assessment will help us identify which category you fall into.

Education

Surgery can be stressful and worrying. Initially we will help you to understand the process of getting you back to full fitness.

Treatment

Hands on treatment can often reduce pain and allow more pain free daily activities. It is important to do this alongside rehabilitation which gets to the root cause of the problem.

Strength & Flexibility

Without question the strength and flexibility of the shoulder and in particular the upper back is the most important factor in getting rid of your shoulder problem, once and for all. We will ensure that you have a specific programme that we then progress over time.

What Our Clients Say

Sheila Gates

I'm a retired professional. Michael came weekly to help me through recovery from total knee replacement surgery done on NHS after many years of waiting. I can honestly say that without his skilful advice, gradually building exercise regime and hands-on therapy, that experience would have been awful. Instead, I felt I had a professional friend helping and guiding me through the months it took to regain mobility. I'm awaiting surgery on the other knee and will certainly be calling upon Michael again to assist my recovery. Well worth the expense.
